10 Tips to Organize your Trip to Madrid in 2017

Are you planning a trip to Madrid? If you want to know the capital of Spain, the possibilities are several. A large and beautiful city that offers possibilities for all tastes. It is worth visiting and enjoying it for a few days. If you do not know how to organize your trip to Madrid in 2017 we give you some tips:

1) Make Housing Arrangements

Before you leave your home country, make sure you find out where you are going to be staying during your travels.  Whether it’s an Airbnb, a hostel, or a hotel room, make sure you have somewhere to stay every night of your stay. The best option is always stay with us in Cat’s Hostel, the best party hostel in Madrid 😉

2) Make Photocopies of any Important Documents

Before leaving, make sure you make multiple photocopies of any important documents and bring at least one copy with you while you travel, and keep one copy with loved ones at home.  This includes copies of your passport, rail pass, car-rental voucher, itinerary, credit cards, ID card, and any other documents of value.

3) Do your Research!

Before you depart, research as much as you can.  There are a lot of other beautiful cities in Spain so figure out if there are other cities you would like to travel to besides Madrid.  Segovia and Toledo are great day trips, located just an hour away from Madrid!

4) Make an Itinerary for Yourself

To make your trip run smoothly and make your life easier, decide what you are going to do and see every day of your travels.  This will ensure that you see and do everything that you want to.

5) Try to Live like a Spaniard!

Since you’re going to be in Madrid, make sure you try to gain as much cultural experience as possible.  Take the metro, eat churros with chocolate, eat tapas, and make sure you go to La Latina on Sundays for the flea market!

6) Be Smart!

Always be aware of your surroundings, especially when in crowded places!  Keep your belongings close to you at all times.  If you have a purse with you in a restaurant or something, keep your purse in front of you on your lap.  There’s no reason to be scared, just be aware.

7) Plan Ahead

The smartest thing to do is plan ahead.  This will make your life a lot easier when you are traveling. If you know where you are going and what you are doing, this will make your whole trip run smoothly.  Always have a plan in case your wallet, passport, phone, or any other valuable is stolen. God forbid this happens to you, you don’t want to be unprepared and not know what to do in this situation.

8) Pack Smart

If you’re planning on traveling all throughout Spain, you don’t want to have to lug around a huge suitcase everywhere.  If you can, bring a small suitcase and a backpack, and that’s it.

9) Buy a European Adapter

This is something that a lot of people forget about but the outlets here are not the same as the ones in America and possibly elsewhere, so it’s important that you get an adapter as soon as possible so that you can charge your electronics and what not.

10) Prepare for Spanish Food

Lastly, prepare for a lot of Spanish food and Spanish meal times.  Tapas and churros con chocolate are everywhere!  Breakfast is very early, lunch is around 14h and dinner is around 21h! There are places like VIPS and some chains like TGI Friday’s, Domino’s, Starbucks, and KFC here but make sure you try as much Spanish food as you can and learn as much as you can about Spanish culture.  When they say “hot chocolate” they’re referring to the thick, rich chocolate sauce that comes with churros, not American hot chocolate.  Don’t be scared, try everything!  You’re only in Spain once!
